Restorative Masonry at Perth Academy
Masonry is a material science as much as a craft. Restorative Masonry at Perth Academy is dedicated to building in stone, brick and mortar, and to caring for the buildings that already stand.
- Lime, mortar, stone and brick: how they interact, age and fail, with an emphasis on lime-based mortars that let historic buildings breathe and move
- Diagnosis: identifying structural and material failures, and knowing when to repair and when to replace
- Hands-on practice: laying brick and stone, forming arches and vaults, repointing and restoring façades, and fine masonry details
- Real structures: hands-on site experience and project-based learning on the repair and renewal of real buildings
Why Perth
