The heritage trades at Perth Academy
- Heritage Carpentry & Joinery: traditional joinery, timber framing and architectural millwork, with hand tools and modern equipment. Participants learn how wood moves, read and produce technical drawings, and repair existing buildings. Targeted for fall 2027.
- Restorative Masonry: lime mortars, stone and brick, arches and vaults, repointing and the repair of historic façades. In development.
- Supplemental Studies: the history and science of building, and practical business and management for builders.
- Professional development: short courses led by visiting instructors.
Time on tools
Mastering a craft takes thousands of hours of repetition and constant handling of real materials. Perth Academy plans to give participants that time, on tools and with materials.
